Complete immersion in true-to-life dynamic audio is said to be provided by professional and high-end consumer audio products using either of two new D/A converters. The AD1852 and AD1854 DACs provide 113 to 117 dB of dynamic range and a total harmonic distortion + noise (THD+N) of -97 to -104 dB-- THD+N is the ratio of the original signal to harmonic distortion plus unwanted noise.
The AD1852 is a 5V, 24-bit stereo audio DAC that uses proprietary data conversion technology to improve audio performance at sample rates from 32 to 192 kHz. The AD1854 is a stereo digital audio playback system-on-a-chip capable of sampling data at 16-, 18-, 20- or 24-bit rates and is available in two different performance grades. The AD1852 comes in 28-pin SSOPs costing $4.50 each/10,000 and the AD1854 costs from $2.95 to $3.95, depending on grade.
