Producing up to 1W of low-distortion, continuous power (1.5W peak) with supply voltages ranging from 2.0V to 5.5V, the FAN7021 CMOS power amplifier is for use in mobile phones, PDAs, and other portable products. With typical total harmonic distortion (THD) of just 0.2% and a power supply rejection ratio of 65 dB, the power amp delivers high quality sound in portable applications. The device integrates an adapative bias current control circuit to minimize crossover distortion, even while consuming 54% less quiescent current than competitive devices. It is also said to feature exceptionally low bias-supply current, which, together with low shutdown current consumption (0.1 µA), saves energy and extends battery life. The FAN7021 also uses a built-in popping noise reduction circuit to reduce unexpected speaker noise when system power is turned on or off. Other features of the new power amp include thermal shutdown protection, unity gain stability, and external gain configuration capability.
