Financial trading desks, reception areas, and hospitals are among the space-constrained areas in which a new family of flat panel displays (FPDs) is expected to take up residence. Offered in 15'', 16'' and 17'' sizes, the thin, sleek, slim-bezel AMLCD panels tout a 30% smaller frame than comparable models on the market. A variety of mounting and viewing options are available, as well as color-coded cables and one-button auto-adjust to ease set-up. The 15'' models have an industrial design, support resolutions up to 1020 x 768 (XGA), can be mounted on a wall or placed on a desk, and can be folded flat when not in use. Price starts at $380. Targeting the retail mart, the 16'' FPDs are said to offer the viewing area of an 18'' CRT monitor and have a starting price of $599. And the 17'' units offer a 170° viewing angle in horizontal and vertical directions and have a starting price of $645. PLANAR SYSTEMS INC., Beaverton, OR. (503) 690-1100.
