In a four-pin TO-46 header, the MAX3744 transimpedance amplifier (TIA) teams with MAX3748A limiting amplifier (LA) to reportedly form the only receiver chipset to allow receive power monitoring for SFF-8472 digital diagnostic applications. The MAX3744, when dc coupled to the MAX3748A, provides a receive-power-monitoring signal and exhibits a 1.8 GHz bandwidth and a transimpedance gain of 3.3 kilohms. Both devices operate from a single 3.3V and collectively consume 93 mW of power. Other common features include an input overload of 2 mA, 330 nARMS of input-referred noise, a 30 kHz low-frequency cutoff, and 10 ps of deterministic jitter at 2.125 GHz. The amplifiers are available as 1.27 x 0.76-mm dice with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Prices start at $3.50 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
