Intended for use with the company's NF and NFH series IGBTs the VLA500 and VLA502 hybrid ICs promise to reduce design time and circuit complexity via the ability to drive the n-channel IGBT modules in any gate-amplifier application. Making good on that promise, the devices include the necessary, isolated dc/dc converter for the gate drive and short circuit protection with fault output. Other shared features include variable fall times upon activation of short circuit protection, 2.5 kVRMS of isolation between inputs and outputs, and TTL-compatible inputs. The VLA502 provides a maximum switching speed of 700 ns for driving the NFH IGBTs, and the VLA500 drives standard IGBT modules and is optimized for use with the NF devices. Sample prices for the VLA500 and VLA502 are $38 and $42 each, respectively. POWEREX INC., Youngwood, PA. (800) 451-1415.
