The APD family of silicon avalanche photodiodes has the response and sensitivity for application in optical communications, medical and military systems. All types have active area diameters from 300 to 900 µm. The range of sensitivity is 400 to 1,100 nm with a peak response at 850 nm. They are supplied in hermetically sealed TO-46 packages with either a flat window or micro lens cap. They are designed to detect light in the visible and near infrared spectrums with particular applications in laser range finders, bar code readers, optical remote control and high-speed photometry.
