Specified as 50 kHz, the ADS1271 is said to be the industry’s widest bandwidth, 24-bit industrial a/d converter. Operating in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +105°C, the device reports an offset drift of 1.8 µV/°C and a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) up to 109 dB. Three selectable operating modes allow users to set operating speeds up to 105 ksamples/s, resolution up to up to 109 dB, and power dissipation up to 35 mW. A selectable frame-sync or SPI interface provides for interfacing to DSPs and microcontrollers. All operations, including internal offset calibration, are controlled directly by pins with no registers to program. Other features include an in-band noise figure of 6.5 µVRMS and a linear phase decimation filter that suppresses modulator and signal out-of-band noise, yielding a signal pass band of 90% of the Nyquist rate with less than 0.005 dB of ripple. Available in a TSSOP-16, price is $5.90 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
