The established CAT5114, a 32-tap, non-volatile digital potentiometer in 10 kO, 50 kO, and 100 kO values, is now available in an eight-lead, 2 mm x 2.5 mm TDFN package, reportedly making it the industry’s smallest non-volatile digital potentiometer. It can replace mechanical potentiometers and trim pots in applications including LCD screen adjustment, tamper-proof product calibration, contrast, brightness, and volume control, gain adjustment, motor control, and feedback systems. Essentially, the CAT5114 is a pin-for-pin replacement for Intersil’s X9315 while offering the option of the smaller TDFN. It is also functionally equivalent to Intersil’s X93154 50-kO potentiometer with additional 10 kO and 100 kO end-to-end resistance values and a wider supply voltage range from 2.5V to 6V. Price is $0.75 each/10,000 piece. CATALYST SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 258-5991.
