The company’s line of surface-mount optical devices (SMODs) promise to boost both bandwidth and reliability in intra-system communications. SMOD transmitters and receivers offer data rates from 4 Gb/s to 10 Gb/s in packages measuring 3 mm x 2 mm, roughly the size of a match head. They are said to be the industry's most compact, integrated modules for 850-nm data communications in free space and short reach applications. Transmitters reach data speeds up to 10 Gb/s, while the receivers integrate an 850-nm photodiode and TIA electronics. For more details, call INTEXYS INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 501-8851.
