Trimming down the footprint of dc/dc converter layouts, the AON740x family of high-side MOSFETs is now available in compact DFN3x3EP packages and is reportedly the first to offer a monolithically integrated Schottky diode in this type of package. The DFN3x3EP package enables higher current and power densities, a result of the package’s exposed copper lead frame. The 3 mm x 3 mm devices offer significant space savings by using only one-third the board area of an alternative SO-8 device while maintaining the same 60°C/W thermal performance. The integral Schottky body diode features a low-forward voltage drop of 0.4V that reduces power losses and a soft-recovery characteristic that reduces ringing and associated EMI. Prices range from $0.31 (AON7408) to $0.60 (AON7400) each/1,000. ALPHA & OMEGA SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 830-9742.
