Tailored for all-in-one PCs, LCD/PDP/CRT monitors and TVs, conference phones, MP3 docking stations, notebook PCs, and PC speakers, the MAX9736A/B family of single-supply, filter-less Class D speaker amplifiers boast of high-performance at the lowest cost. The devices employ a spread-spectrum, filter-less modulation design that minimizes external components, thereby keeping costs low. They save further space by eliminating input-filter operational amplifiers. The MAX9736A delivers 2 x 15W into 8-Ohm loads or 1 x 30W into a 4-Ohm load while the MAX9736B pumps 2 x 6W into 8-Ohm loads or 1 x 12W into a 4-Ohm load. With a pin-selectable stereo/mono mode, both can drive a 4-Ohm stereo or 2-Ohm mono load with supply voltages up to 12V. Additionally, they are pin compatible, so one design will work across a broad range of platforms. Other shared features include operation via a single-supply voltage from 8V to 28V, a PSRR of 67 dB, an efficiency up to 88% at 12V, and comprehensive click-and-pop reduction circuitry. Available in 32-pin TQFN packages measuring 7 mm x 7 mm, prices start at $1.49 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
