Promising to reduce power consumption while providing high performance for precision applications, the 12-bit ADS7229 and ADS7230 and the 14-bit ADS7279 and ADS7280 a/d converters combine a 1-Msample/s successive approximation register (SAR) ADC with inherent sample and hold and a conversion clock. The ADS7229 and ADS7279 feature a single uni-polar input for applications requiring a single data converter per channel while the ADS7230 and ADS7280 provide a 2-to-1 input multiplexer that allows each ADC to digitize two channels. All four devices include a SPI-compatible interface, consume 13.7 mW at 1 Msamples/s with a 3V supply, operate over an industrial temperature range from -40?C to 85?C, and are available in 16-pin, 4-mm x 4-mm QFN and 16-pin TSSOP packages. Depending on the ADC, prices range from $2.30 to $4.50 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
