New dual, 14-bit, 250 Msamples/s analog-to-digital converters (ADC) achieve 73-dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 85-dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at an input frequency of 60 MHz while consuming 625 mW per channel. Texas Instruments says its ADS62P49 provides the industry’s fastest sample rate for a 14-bit dual ADC. Programmable gain (0 to 6 dB in 1-dB steps) makes it possible to optimize signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) and input swing based on the application. For example, digital pre-distortion (DPD) circuits in an RF communications transmit chain need the highest possible SNR, while the receiver chain benefits most from high SFDR. The ADS62P49 is available now. There will also be a 12-bit ‘P28 version, and 14- and 12-bit parts that run at 210 Msamples/s. The ADS62P49 ADC, in a 9 mm x 9mm QFN package, costs $144.75 in 1,000-piece quantities. TI also offers an evaluation board, the ADS62P49EVM, with on-board sockets for a voltage-controlled crystal oscillator, crystal filter and a clock-distribution and jitter-cleaning chip.
