In this 101 article, the Electronic Design editors give a basic overview of precision analog for quick and easy reference.

Precision analog is a term that encompasses a variety of analog components such as precision op amps, precision voltage references, instrumentation amplifiers and digitally controlled potentiometers. All of these precision parts are characterized by superior specifications as detailed in their datasheets and a guarantee of sorts to designers that these parts will meet those specifications and that performance will be repeatable over wide variations in external conditions such as temperature.
