Headphone Amp Suppresses RF

Dec. 2, 2009
MAX9820 stereo headphone amplifier

The MAX9820 stereo headphone amplifier employs a patented DirectDrive architecture to eliminate clicks and pops and large output-coupling capacitors. Notably, it also suppresses RF radiation, thereby preventing the device from demodulating the coupled noise. The MAX9820 operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply and delivers 95 mW of output power. It consumes less than 1 µA in shutdown mode and 3 mA during operation. Other features include under-voltage lockout plus thermal overload and short-circuit protection. In a 10-pin, 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.8 mm TDFN package, prices start at $0.44 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
