The L3G4IS dual-core gyroscope embarks as the market’s first such device capable of handling both user-motion recognition and camera image stabilization. Its unique system architecture enables the use of a single gyroscope for two functions. In its 4 mm x 4 mm x 1 mm package, the device includes power-down and sleep modes and an embedded FIFO memory block. The sensor outputs data through independent I2C and SPI interfaces. Other features include configurable low- and high-pass filters, a temperature sensor, and operation with a supply voltage from 2.4V to 3.6V. With volume production scheduled for the second quarter, pricing is $3.90 each/1,000. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
