25 - 160 MSPS ADC Family Saves Energy In Industrial Designs

Sept. 18, 2014
12- and 14-bit small, pin-compatible ADCs with 2 or 4 channels and LVDS or JESD204B interfaces, use just 200 mW/ch at 160 MSPS and 44 mW/ch at 25 MSPS at industrial ambient temperatures.

TI’s ADC3k family of small, pin-compatible ADCs include 12- and 14-bit options in speed grades up to 160 MSPS with 2 or 4 channels and LVDS or JESD204B interfaces. They use just 200 mW/ch at 160 MSPS and 44 mW/ch at 25 MSPS while supporting the industrial ambient temperature range for use in industrial motor control, medical imaging, portable test and measurement, software defined radio, and MIMO communications. The THS4541 low power consumption rail-to-rail output, fully differential amplifier, capable of 850 MHz GBW with a harmonic distortion performance of 123/-130 dBc HD2/HD3 at 1 MHz, maximizes the performance of the ADC3k when used in tandem. The TIDA-00294 reference design, available to accelerate high-speed signal acquisition system design, includes the 12-bit, 4-channel, 50 MSPS ADC34J22 ADC and THS4541. The ADC3k family will include 32 pin-compatible devices by the end of 2015 with speed grades ranging from 25 - 160 MSPS and comes in a 7 x 7 mm QFN package, except for the 4-channel LVDS versions (8 x 8 mm QFN). Currently sampling units range in price from $23.95 to $120.75 each/1,000, ADC3k EVMs are $299 and the THS4541 is available in a 10-pin, 2 x 2 mm QFN and 16-pin, 3 x 3 mm QFN for $2.65 each/1,000.
