Single Poke-Home WTB Contact Series With 1.7 mm Contact

May 5, 2014

AVX Corporation has further expanded its 9296 Single Poke-Home Wire-to-Board (WTB) Contact Series with the addition of an extremely low profile (1.7 mm) single-position contact.  The 9296 Series contacts enable the simple, reliable, and solderless termination of power, signal, and ground wires in a broad range of harsh industrial applications and exhibit full connector performance without the added expense of an insulator and its associated assembly costs.  Featuring a unique closed box design with dual opposing high spring-force contacts that provide excellent wire retention in rugged environments, 9296 Series contacts are now available with 1.7 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm profiles.

Integrating several key features within the stamping to facilitate SMT pickup, wire guidance, high force retention, and easy twist-and-pull wire removal, 9296 Series WTB contacts have upper and lower tines that guide stripped wires down the center of the contact zone and an integral end-stop to ensure proper insertion depth and maximum mechanical stability.

The 1.7mm 9296 Series contact is rated for 5A-8A and is capable of accepting solid or stranded 22, 24, and 26 AWG wires.  The 2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm 9296 Series contacts are rated for up to 20 A and can accommodate solid or stranded wires ranging from 12-28AWG. All 9296 Series contacts are RoHS compliant and are rated for five-cycle durability and temperatures spanning -40 °C to +125 °C.  Voltage ratings for the series are dependent upon placement distance between individual contacts, which are tape and reel packaged for automated single contact placement and SMT reflow.

Additional applications for the series include: smart grid meters, breakers, and panels; SSL/LED bulbs, fixtures, signage, and streetlights; machine controls, including motors, drives, solenoids, sensors, fans, and pumps; and commercial building controls, such as fire and security sensors.
