Connectors Support 10 Gbits/s Ethernet Cabling Applications

Aug. 12, 2015
ERNI Electronics Inc. has expanded its M12 connector products to support 10 Gbits/s Ethernet cabling applications.

ERNI Electronics Inc. has expanded its M12 connector product offerings. Recent additions to this form factor include an enhanced Gigabit Ethernet connector that facilitates 10GbE applications. Providing high-speed data transfer, the M12 X-Code Gigabit Ethernet connectors are designed for industrial data communications applications.

The M12 Gigabit Ethernet connectors feature an 8-pin design and are compatible with RJ45 network cabling. The interface is X-coded according to IEC 61076-2-109. EMC characteristics are supported by the 360° shielding and improved effectiveness that is complemented with shield-to-PCB and shield-to-panel-conductor features. To comply with the requirements as per the IEEE, the new Gigabit Ethernet connectors can withstand a test voltage of at least 1.5 kVAC. In addition, they exhibit a clearance and creepage distance of at least 1.6 mm.

The PCB female connector and screw-locking (panel mount) coupler form a two-part, rugged I/O system with a space-saving and proven SMT termination design. It is supplied in tape-and-reel packaging with suction foil for automatic assembly. Other features include IP65/67-rated protection in conjunction with corresponding cable connectors and a wide temperature range of -55° to +125 °C.

Applications include, but not limited to, the connection of IP cameras, public transport and railway infrastructure, broadcasting systems, industrial machinery and process equipment, automation packaging and encoder solutions.

The future-oriented high bandwidth of these connectors allows customers to benefit from maximum investment security for the next five to ten years, more efficient network utilization and real-time capabilities. Pricing typically starts at $3.00 in low-mid volume with a lead time of stock to eight weeks.
