The Icon PID Position Controller is designed to work seamlessly with the Icon H-Bridge module. When used with a brushed dc motor and quadrature encoder, the two devices form a highly versatile position control module for medium- and low-current servo motor control. The unit features four primary modes of operation: direct control, trapezoidal profile control, analog position control, and velocity control modes. The controller's circuitry includes a switching step-down regulator, a 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), indicator LEDs, quadrature decoder circuitry, and two channels of 10-bit pulse-width modulated (PWM) generation. Additional features include data logging (for direct and trapezoidal control modes) and user-configurable limit switch settings. The unit measures 4.0 by 1.9 by 0.6 in. Motor connections are made via a screw terminal. The Icon controllers cost $85 each in 100-unit lots. The Icon H-Bridge (required) costs $85 in similar quantities.
