For direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor washing machines, the latest addition to the iMOTION family, a sensor-less control design platform, includes a mixed-signal controller, intelligent power modules, algorithms, development software, and design tools. The IRMCF341 IC integrates all control and analog interface functions required for sensor-less speed control using dc link current measurements. Analog functions include a differential amplifier, dual sample and hold circuits, 12-bit ADC, and a 60 MIPS, 8-bit 8051 MCU. The IRAMS06UP60B and IRAMS10UP60B inverter power modules feature a high-voltage gate drive IC, dc link shunt, over-temperature and over-current protection, IGBTs, an under-voltage lockout function, and a temperature monitor. Design tools in the IRMCS3041 reference design include web-based software tools, the FOC algorithm, and communications software. Price is $995. INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER, El Segundo, CA.
