The DataTorque SM7 encoder features an extremely small package, measuring only 0.787 in. (20 mm) in diameter. The device incorporates the company's patent-pending sensing scheme and encoder design that is claimed to provide a longer service life.
With performance features more common to larger devices, the SM7 provides digital feedback with a resolution up to 2048 lines. Output variations include single-ended, open collector, internal pull-ups, or RS-422 differential line driver. It is available with supply voltages of 5 vdc or 5 to 26 vdc.
The device is constructed of a conductive carbon fiber composite that is said to provide high noise (EMI) immunity and has IP 50-sealing capabilities. According to the company, the encoder is ideally suited for applications such as semiconductor processing, medical instrumentation, and precision automation.
