Specializing in electrical-motor control in automotive design, the 32-bit, 64-MHz SH7147F RISC microcontroller is the first to employ the company's metal oxide nitride oxide silicon (MONOS) embedded flash technology, which promises speed, size, and reliability advantages. The 256-KB flash memory is implemented on a 0.15 µm process and has full-time single-cycle random access capability. Reportedly, it requires approximately 60% less chip area than the same amount of flash built with floating-gate NOR flash technology. Since its cell design minimizes losses, the MONOS embedded flash is said to be more reliable. Integrated peripherals on the MCU include eight 16-bit PWM timers and a 16-channel a/d converter with sample-and-hold circuits. The device operates over a temperature range from -40°C to +125°C and comes in a100-pin LQFP measuring 14 mm x 14 mm with a 0.5-mm pin pitch. Sample pricing is $25.75 each.
