Encoder Has Brushless Motor Outputs

Aug. 1, 1999

Combining brushless motor commutation pulses and incremental position feedback in a single encoder, RCM15 1.5" diameter rotary optical encoder with commutation has a single LED and sensor arrangement to reduce cost while improving the performance and reliability of the brushless motor/encoder package. It also features a proprietary slide/gap mechanism for ease of installation and a built-in servo groove that allows ±20° rotation of the encoder to align the commutation tracks with the motor poles. Resolutions are up to 1024 lines, with the encoder providing commutation for 4, 6- or 8-pole brushless motors.
