Encapsulated in a thermoplastic material meeting UL 94V-0 flammability standards, the SMD PV series of metal oxide varistors (MOVs) boast of an operating range of from 11 to 300 VRMS and can withstand surge currents ranging from 100A to 1200A. The two sizes offered for the SMT MOVs are equivalent to 5- and 7-mm leaded MOVs. The firm also has added 9- and 18-mm leaded models to its existing 5-, 7-, 10-, 14- and 20-mm sizes. The leaded MOVs span a range from 4 to 1355 VACRMS with maximum energy capabilities from 0.3 to in excess of 600 joules. They can withstand surge currents from 100A to 6500A with a maximum clamping voltage range from 22V to in excess of 3 kV. The MOVs protect electronic and electrical equipment by absorping abnormal voltages and lightening pulses. They find use in protecting relays, coils, ground fault interrupts, power supplies, communications equipment, motor controls, etc.
