Chip Controls Two-Axis Of Motion

Sept. 1, 1999

This programmable pulse generator chip can support two-axis of motion control on stepper motors and pulse input type servo motors. Housed in 100-pin QFPs, PCL-5022 LSI chip unburdens the host CPU from motion control tasks by generating motion control profiles and output pulses. Key PCL-5022 chip features include: maximum output speed of 1.2 Mpps with a reference clock of 9.8304 MHz; an interface to Intel 8- or 16-bit bus or Motorola 8-bit bus host CPUs; 2-channel pulse output formats to motor drives (i.e., up/down and pulse/direction formats); operation modes controlled by the mode register; five signal inputs available for machine interface; and 21 interrupt sources per axis to the host CPU.
