Offered for power switching applications involving inverters and servomotor control operating at frequencies to 20 kHz, the L-Series IPM isolated base intelligent module represents a 30% package size reduction compared to similar modules. The modules employ a fifth generation carrier stored trench gate bipolar transistor (CSTBT) chip that is said to ensure low loss and includes on-chip temperature sensing. Separate temperature sensors are deployed on each chip to avoid the possibility of not detecting excessive junction temperature when the chips are located far from the sensor. Other features include built-in control circuits that provide gate drive and protection for the IGBT and short-circuit, over-temperature, and under-voltage lockout protection. The modules are available in six packs and seven packs rated from 50A to 150A at 600V and 25A to 75A at 1.2 kV. Solder pins or screw power terminals are options on the lower current modules. Depending on current rating, prices range from $75 to $180 each/100. POWEREX INC., Youngwood, PA. (800) 451-1415.
