Featuring a bearing-less design that offers more robust operation than a traditional motor-feedback system, the SEK/SEL52 capacitive motor-feedback system is a high-resolution type with the company’s Hiperface interface. The systems come in a 52-mm housing and are available in single-turn and multi-turn versions with servo clamp, hollow-shaft or tapered-shaft configurations. The systems’ heart is a bearing-less, capacitive sensor element that produces impulses by means of a star-shaped rotor that changes, through its rotation, the dielectric material between the sender and receiver PCBs. The holistic scanning process means that neither radial nor axial tolerances introduced during rotor rotation can impair the accuracy of measurement, it’s claimed. SEK/SEL52 motor-feedback systems provide 16 sine/cosine periods, resolution of 512 steps per revolution, and 1 (single-turn) or 4096 (multi-turn) steps per revolution. They are rated for shock resistance to 100 g for 10 ms, vibration resistance to 50 g over a range of 10 to 2000 Hz, and provide reliable operation in temperatures ranging from -40°C to+115°C (single-turn) or -20°C to +115°C (multi-turn).
