RS-485 Transceivers Enhance Motor-Control Apps

June 4, 2010
The MAX14840E and MAX14841E 40-Mb/s, half-duplex RS-485 transceivers are available with either symmetrical or true fail-safe receiver inputs for industrial motor-control applications requiring long cable runs.

The MAX14840E and MAX14841E 40-Mb/s, half-duplex RS-485 transceivers are available with either symmetrical or true fail-safe receiver inputs for industrial motor-control applications requiring long cable runs. The MAX14840E features symmetrical fail-safe receiver inputs and a receiver hysteresis of 170 mV while the MAX14841E has true fail-safe receiver inputs that guarantee a logic-high receiver output when inputs are shorted or open. Both transceivers operate from a supply voltage of 3.3V, operate over a temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, and come in standard eight-pin SO and TDFN packages. Prices start at $1.49 each/1,000.
