The latest addition to Melexis’ Triaxis Hall-effect sensor family is the high-speed MLX91208 series. Sporting a response time of 3 µs, the sensors will most likely find homes in electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and renewable energy systems. They maintain a stable accuracy over operational lifespan and temperature (typical thermal sensitivity drift of ±150 ppm/°C) for proprietary and novel design elements. Transfer characteristics are fully adjustable; sensitivity, gain, and offset can be stored in built-in EEPROM memory. Calibration is accomplished via the company’s Programming Through Connector (PTC) protocol. Operating temperature ranges from −40 to +150°C, suiting the devices to precision dc and ac current measurements up to 200 kHz. The two models in the family include the MLX91208CAL for detecting very low magnetic fields and the MLX91208CAH (100 to 700 mV/mT) for detection of medium fields (50 to 300 mV/mT). They come housed in a standard SO-8.
