Promising 6-times faster performance with 90% less battery drain than previous generation components, the M2I emerges as the market's first synchronous Mobile Multimedia Interconnect. Optimized for multimedia applications in mobile handsets and personal digital assistant devices, the M2I interface enables the processor to support additional functionality such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS. The interconnect works with application and baseband processors that employ an address-data mux (ADM) interface. The ADM interface features a lower I/O count and higher bandwidth than other strategies such as asynchronous dual-port RAMs and embedded serial interfaces. The M2I uses 50% fewer processor I/O pins, freeing those pins to support varied functionality. Additionally, it deploys eight dynamically programmable I/Os that the processor can use to control and/or monitor other devices. The M2I architecture achieves high-performance levels and low-battery drain via its synchronous clocking scheme that uses an internal counter, which eliminates the necessity for multiple addressing. Consequently, the component processes 64 Kb of data in 4,001 cycles. Currently sampling, price is $3 each/10,000. INTEGRATED DEVICE TECHNOLOGY INC., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 345-7015.
