BGA Socket Utilizes Elastomer Contactor

June 20, 2012
Ironwood Electronics has developed the SM-BGA-9007 socket product line using unique elastomer capable of high speed, low inductance and high endurance.
The SM-BGA-9007 socket from Ironwood Electronics uses a unique elastomer capable of high speed, low inductance and high endurance. The socket is designed for 9.75 x 13 mm package sizes and operates at bandwidths up to 40 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss. The socket also dissipates a few watts via a compression screw, but can be customized for up to 100 watts with a modified fin design on top of the screw and an additional axial flow fan. The contact resistance is typically 15 milliohms per pin, while the socket connects all pins with 40 GHz bandwidth on all connections. The socket is constructed with a shoulder screw and swivel lid, which incorporates a quick insertion method. The temperature range of this material is -55 C to +150 C, the pin self inductance is 0.10 nH with a mutual inductance of 0.007 nH, capacitance to ground is 0.069 pF, and current capacity is 4 amps per pin. Pricing for the SM-BGA-9007 socket is $1245 each, with reduced pricing available depending on quantity.
