Murray Hill, NJ- A new plating finish material for connector contacts that reportedly offers higher performance and lower cost than any material on the market has been developed by Electroplating Chemicals & Services (EC&S), a wholly-owned venture of Lucent Technologies. The new material is an alloy of palladium and cobalt (PdCo). The PallaTech PdCo electroplating material is said to be more durable than palladium nickel (PdNi) or hardened gold, which are commonly used for connector contacts. The new material also helps connector manufacturers better control contact thickness. AMP is reported to be the first customer for the new material.
