The HCI power-distribution connector system anticipates increasing system power demands that are driving the need for greater power density. A single HCI power contact accommodates over 82A of current based on a 30°C temperature rise with zero airflow. Configurations support standard co-planar and backplane interfaces and the system's fully integrated design enables dc power, ac power, and signal contacts in a single molded housing. The modular design of the HCI system accommodates custom configuration requirements. Other features include stamped contacts and a vented yet touch-proof housing to optimize airflow above, below, and through the connector. This allows heat to convect away from contact surfaces. In terms of support, a dedicated website is on line to assist designers in determining which HCI products are right for their design. Pricing for a typical HCI back-panel configuration is $16 per mated pair in prototype quantities. FCI USA INC., Etters, PA. (800) 237-2374.
