Increased Production Means More Environmentally Friendly Material To Prevent EMI

GE Plastics is expanding production of its LNP Faradex compounds, whose inherent EMI shielding meets EMC regulations while reducing part weight and system cost. The compounds include a new environmentally friendly NS0031 grade that provides flame retardan

At its facility in Moka, Japan, GE Plastics has expanded production of its LNP Faradex compounds, including a new environmentally friendly NS0031 grade that features a non-brominated, non-chlorinated flame retardant. The compounds provide inherent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and allow manufacturers to meet electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations with materials that reduce part weights and system costs. The company said it will continue to develop additional grades of Faradex compounds as EMC standards evolve and electronics’ device requirements change.

The company’s new LNP Faradex NS0031 grade is based on a blend of polycarbonate and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS). It provides flame retardance without the use of brominated and chlorinated additives that are restricted by legislation in Japan, Europe, and other areas. All Faradex compounds incorporate stainless-steel fibers to provide intrinsic EMI shielding, avoiding the need for a separate vacuum metallization layer that can add time and cost.
