With a nod to user frustration, the CL-QFE44SE-T-01 test adapter clip allows probing of a 44-pin, 0.8-mm pitch QFP device with reliable spring pins. Probing is accomplished with the target chip in place without the need to de-solder it. According to the company, QFP clips use proprietary and short-lived connection schemes and the adapter accommodates this via spring pins rated for up to 500,000 cycles. An alignment piece attaches to the top of the QFP chip with an adhesive, after which the probe is inserted and a screw compresses the spring probes. All contacts, including the spring pins and 0.1" headers, are gold plated. Single-unit price is $350. IRONWOOD ELECTRONICS, Eagan, MN. (800) 404-0204.
