USCAR Type C Connectors Deliver Rugged Automotive Connectivity

May 21, 2025
Molex HSAuto Link C interconnect solution provides USCAR Type C compatibility for automotive USB connections.

Molex's HSAutoLink C Interconnect System is compatible with the USCAR Type C interface used for rugged USB connectivity in automotive applications. The connectors are able support data rates up to 40 Gb/s, and they can provide power up to 240 W.

The locking connectors support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 that supports multiple protocols including DisplayPort, Ehternet, and LVDS. They're available in sealed and unsealed versions. The connector position assurance (CPA) provides reliable operation in rugged conditions, such as that experienced with automotive applications where moisture and vibration are common. It employs multiple cable exits and strain relief angles for improved system design (see figure).

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
