Retailer Target is installing energy-efficient LEDs in refrigerated display cases.
Retailer Target is getting ready to install refrigeration cases with LED lighting at 500 of its stores. The lights are from GE Lighting and operate at 29 W per door compared with an average of 73 W with the usual fluorescent lamps. The LEDs are also on motion detectors so they switch off if no shoppers are nearby but switch on again when someone gets within viewing range of the merchandise. GE says it has sold more than 700,000 LED refrigerated display case lights since it came up with the category four years ago. A short video shows how the system works at Target:
