Wide Terminal Thin Film Chip Resistors Now Include 1 Ohm

May 8, 2013
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that it has extended its MCW 0406 AT Precision series of wide terminal thin film chip resistors with ohmic values down to 1 Ω, the industry's lowest for such a device in the compact 0406 package.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has extended its MCW 0406 AT Precision series of wide terminal thin film chip resistors with ohmic values down to 1 Ω, the industry's lowest for such a device in the compact 0406 package. The resistors combine their low ohmic values with precision tolerance of ± 0.1 % and precision TCR of ± 25 ppm/K.

Vishay's MCW 0406 AT Precision resistors feature high-temperature performance to + 155 °C and high power dissipation of 250 mW at an ambient temperature of 70 °C. These specifications allow designers to use the resistors in harsh and high-temperature environments without compromising power rating or electrical performance. The devices are equally effective whether the application requires their full power capability or only a fraction of the nominal rated dissipation in order to gain improved stability. In addition to offering excellent high-temperature performance, the Vishay Beyschlag MCW 0406 AT Precision is extremely robust against thermal cycling and biased humidity. On a four-layer FR4 printed circuit board, the devices handle up to 2,500 cycles of rapid temperature change over a span of - 40 °C to + 125 °C. High humidity robustness is achieved by a unique lacquer system. The devices are likewise qualified per accelerated tests including operation at + 85 °C at 85 % relative humidity for 1,000 hours, making the MCW 0406 AT Precision suitable for virtually any application.

The AEC-Q200-qualified MCW 0406 AT Precision resistors are the perfect choice for most fields of modern professional power measurement electronics in which reliability, stability, power dissipation, and robust design are major concerns. Typical applications will include power measurement in industrial and automotive electronics including Xenon and LED lighting systems, engine control units, gear box controls, and braking systems.

Samples of the enhanced resistors are available now. Production quantities will be available in February 2013, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.10 per piece.
