A precision automotive thin-film chip resistor from Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. operates to +155 °C with 100 % power, derated linearly to 0 mW power at +250 °C. Providing a nearly 100 °C extension in operating temperature range over traditional thin film chip resistors, the AEC-Q200-qualified PATT offers an absolute TCR as low as ± 25 ppm/°C and laser-trimmed tolerances down to ± 0.1 %.

With a load-life stability of < 0.2 % at 155 °C and full rated power for 1,000 hours, the Vishay Dale Thin Film resistor released today is optimized for the low-noise, single-signal processing required to compensate for low offset and temperature drift in high-temperature environments, including under-the-hood automotive applications, high-precision oil and gas exploration, and telecommunications and industrial equipment.

Offered today in the compact 0603 case size (with additional case sizes in development), the PATT resistor offers a wide resistance range from 2.75 ohms to 120 kohms, with non-standard values available. The device features very low noise of < -35 dB, a low voltage coefficient of 0.1 ppm/V, a power rating of 150 mW, and a 75 V maximum working voltage range.

The PATT features a high-purity ceramic substrate and 10 µin. gold terminations over nickel barrier for high-temperature HMP soldering, and it withstands ESD to 2 kV per AEC-Q200 Class 1C. The resistor is moisture resistant to MIL-STD-202, method 202; flame resistant in accordance to UL 94 V-0; sulfur resistant per ASTM B809-95 humid vapor test; and 100 % visually inspected per MIL-PRF-55342. The device is lead (Pb)-free, RoHS-compliant, and halogen-free, and it conforms to Vishay "green" standards. Samples and production quantities of the PATT resistor are available now, with lead times of eight weeks. Pricing for U.S. delivery ranges from $0.40 to $0.50 per piece, depending on tolerance, in 1,000-piece quantities.
