A new shielded shaped core power inductor has been designed for use in voltage regulator module (VRM) applications in computer desktops, portables, workstations, and servers. The PA0513 inductor has an operating current rating of 45A, a peak current rating of 70A, an inductance range of 210 nH to 440 nH, a frequency range of up to 1 MHz, and a typical DCR of 0.39 mW. Lauded for having half the power loss of other inductors, the PA0513 increases overall dc/dc converter efficiency between 1% and 3%, depending on load condition and number of phases. According to the company, higher inductor efficiency is the result of low DCR, tight inductance and DCR tolerance of ±8%, low core loss, and reduced ac losses. Sporting an industry standard 5050 footprint, the PA0513 measures 13.5 mm x 13.5 mm x 8.0 mm. Operating temperature ranges from –40°C to +130°C. Pricing starts at $0.28 each/100,000.
