The company's Zenite LCP liquid crystal polymer resin from DuPont is said to be responsible for maximum performance at minimum cost exhibited by a line of miniature surface-mount power inductors. The inductors consist of a coil wound on a ferrite bobbin core that sits on a base injection molded from this new material.
Said to provide an advantage over brittle or thermoset alternatives, this material reduces part costs based on its fast mold cycling and its compatibility with hot runner tooling that eliminates sprue and runner scrap. The inductors are available in sizes from 43 to 123 mm2 and heights as low as 4.5 mm. Inductance values range up to 1 mH with current-handling capacities up to 10A. It is also claimed that these inductors have the highest saturation current and the lowest direct current resistance (DCR) when compared to similar products.
