Considered to be the smallest boundary elastic surface acoustic wave (BEL SAW) filters in existence, the SAFAM series measure just 0.8 mm x 0.6 mm x 0.365 mm. According to the company, this represents a 75% decrease in volume and 66% reduction in area compared to other filters. The components employ BGA terminations for mounting on integrated circuits, a space-saving feature that would be advantageous in cell phone designs. Another advantage of attaching the filter directly to the semiconductor is that it gives more performance control to the IC maker. Samples of the SAFAM series are available for $0.50 each.
