Wurth Electronics Midcom’s new series of planar transformers is optimized for frequencies ranging from 200 to 700 kHz, with 500-V dc isolation and 250-W power-handling capabilities. The planar surface-mount transformers come in multiple turns-ratio options with optional auxiliary winding, making them customizable to individual customer needs. They measure 10 mm in height, and operating temperature range is -40 to +125°C. When compared to traditional bobbin-wound products, the transformers offer reduced size and weight, higher efficiency, lower leakage, consistent parasitics, and enhanced thermal characteristics. They’re also lower cost thanks to the use of pre-formed flatwires rather than stacked-layer and multilayer PCB designs.
