Ball Lenses Feature Durable, Uniform AR Coating

Jan. 27, 2010
IsoSphere AR-coated ball lenses come with an ultra-uniform coating over the entire surface of the sphere
Employing the company’s proprietary IsoDyn low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) process, the IsoSphere AR-coated ball lenses come with an ultra-uniform coating over the entire surface of the sphere. Providing dual and broad band AR coatings (e.g. 1,310/1,550 dual band), the dual band coatings allow one lens to operate on either wavelength. Allegedly, because there is no need for orientation of the lens in a device since the coating is uniform over all, the ball lenses reduce device assembly costs. A wide choice of lens materials with indices from 1.44 to 2.15 at 1,550 nm are available.
Additionally, the components are bondable by a wide variety of methods making them suitable for use in new or existing optical designs including coupling and collimating applications and fiber-to-fiber, diode-to-fiber, and fiber-to-detector coupling where access to the beam is necessary.
