Chip Resistors Extend Power Rating

March 11, 2010
the RNCP Series thin-film chip resistors specify twice the power rating compared to thick-film technology

Offered as a high-power, low-cost alternative to thick-film resistive technology, the RNCP Series thin-film chip resistors specify twice the power rating compared to thick-film technology. The company eliminates silver from the terminations making the part impervious to sulfur while avoiding the use of expensive metals. Reportedly, this reduces the cost of the resistor to within 10% of a thick-film chip and significantly reduces noise and interrupted power. Specs include absolute tolerances to ±1%, a TCR of ±100 ppm/°C, 0402, 0603, 0805, and 1206 chip sizes, power ratings from 0.1W to 0.5W, and maximum working voltages from 50V to 200V. Pricing varies with chip size, tolerance, and resistance, ranging from $1 to $10 per thousand in full-reel quantities. STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS INC., Raleigh, NC. (888) 734-7347.
