Chip Resistors Thwart Corrosion

Oct. 25, 2010
The RNCS Series passivated nichrome thin-film precision chip resistors are impervious to moisture and, therefore, the potential for moisture-induced corrosion that can cause standard Nichrome elements to degrade and fail.

The RNCS Series passivated nichrome thin-film precision chip resistors are impervious to moisture and, therefore, the potential for moisture-induced corrosion that can cause standard Nichrome elements to degrade and fail. The components are viable alternatives to tantalum nitride based chip resistors with typical pricing being 30% lower than their tantalum nitride equivalents. The resistors are available in sizes ranging from 0402 to 2512, in tolerances down to 0.1%, and with TCR’s as low as 15 ppm. Available resistance values range from 10? to 1 M?. Pricing ranges from $16 to $230 per 1,000. STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS INC., Raleigh, NC. (888) 734-7347.
