Current-Detection Resistors Quadruple Power Rating

Jan. 24, 2013

Rohm’s latest wide-terminal, low-ohmic chip resistor offers 1 W of rated power in a 3216-sized package—that’s four times greater than conventional counterparts, according to the company. The LTR18 series resistor is designed for current detection in automotive systems, motors, power-supply applications, and others. A unique heat-dissipation design drives the increased power rating, along with upgraded materials and a revamped resistor element structure that boosts temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) even at low resistances. Its wide terminal configuration minimizes mechanical stress at the joints and enhances reliability against temperature fluctuations. The higher power-handling capability plus improved temperature characteristics suits the resistors for sets with stringent temperature-compensation requirements while reducing design load.
