International Rectifier extended its 60-V StrongIRFET family of power MOSFETs, featuring ultra-low on-state resistance, with models in various standard and performance power packages designed for industrial applications. Among the new MOSFETs is the IRF7580M, which is housed in a low-profile, high-current-density, Medium Can (ME) DirectFET package suited for space-limited, high-power industrial designs. It has wire-bond-free construction to improve reliability performance. The RoHS-compliant DirectFET package will suit long life-cycle designs. Alternative high-performance packages feature lead die-attach under RoHS exemption 7(a), which is due to expire in 2016. The overall family of 19 StrongIRFET power MOSFETs maintain high-current-carrying capability, a soft body diode, and 3-V typical threshold voltage to enhance noise immunity. Each is 100% avalanche tested at the highest avalanche current levels to ensure robustness. Other packaging types for the MOSFET family include D2-PAKs, D2-PAK-7s, PQFNs, TO-220s, and TO-247s. Specific applications range from power tools, light electric vehicle (LEV) inverters, and dc motor drives to Li-ion battery-pack protection, and switched-mode power-supply (SMPS) secondary-side synchronous rectification.
