Avatars are for More than Just the Metaverse

SapientX's Sage avatar makes use of rule-based symbolic logic to provide natural language interaction.

Check out our CES 2022 coverage.

SapientX builds artificial-intelligent-based (AI) voice assistants. The company's latest example is Sage (Fig. 1). The avatar can be presented on a large screen mimicking a full size human. It can interact with a person responding to voice queries. Natural language processing (NLP) leverages a rule-based, symbolic logic system, allowing the system to respond.

The graphical avatars are presented using the Epic Games Unreal Engine. The avatars are created with the MetaHuman Creator tool from Epic Games.

SapientX uses deep-neural-network-based (DNN) AI for voice recognition, but the rule-based AI for NLP. This is more accurate and requires significantly less processing power than DNN AI approaches.
